This fortified wine has been named in memory of my grandfather, Captain James Matheson Nimmo, a coalminer from Ngapara, North Otago. Produced in a “vintage port” style from ripe Tempranillo, Malbec & Merlot grapes. Boysenberries, spicy currants & raisins with a smooth warm finish.

Winemaker Notes

Tempranillo, Malbec & Merlot were co-fermented in open top fermenters. Whey alcohol was added towards the end of ferment to stop the ferment (by increasing alcohol level to levels where the yeasts cannot survive) thereby retaining natural residual sweetness. The fortified wine was then matured in barrels for 14 months.

Viticulture Notes

Temranillo, Malbec & Merlot were harvested at 25+ brix from Hihi vineyard at 53, Bond Road.
